In response to a growing mental health crisis in the UK hospitality sector, leading charity Hospitality Action has released a new guide, "Next Steps: What the industry can do to improve wellbeing in hospitality."
The guide, developed in partnership with the Walk for Wellbeing initiative, offers practical solutions for businesses and individuals to tackle the alarming 76% of hospitality workers reporting mental health challenges.
Mark Lewis, Chief Executive at Hospitality Action, said: "Hospitality is a dynamic and exciting industry, but it comes with its own pressures. We want to help employers prioritise the wellbeing of their teams, and this guide offers practical solutions and actionable steps to support employees."
The guide emphasizes the need for a culture shift, providing tips on promoting a positive work/life balance, fostering open communication, and utilizing resources like Hospitality Action's Employee Assistance Programme. It also encourages participation in wellbeing initiatives like Walk for Wellbeing.
Walk for Wellbeing: A Step in the Right Direction
Now in its fifth year, Walk for Wellbeing is a fun, flexible event aimed at raising funds and awareness for mental health in hospitality.
Eight hosted 20km walks will take place in key cities across the UK on Sunday 13 October, with an option to 'Walk It Your Way' anytime between 10 and 27 October.
The guide is a timely and essential resource for an industry grappling with the aftermath of the pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis. It is available for download on Hospitality Action's website, offering a roadmap for hospitality employers to create a more supportive and mentally healthy workplace.
