Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall Leads Veg Power's #SeasonalVeg Campaign

Veg Power announced it has launched an ongoing seasonal veg campaign to support its mission of increasing the UK’s veg consumption.

By encouraging consumers to ‘eat with the seasons’, the variety and volume of vegetables consumed should increase whilst having a number of benefits to the UK and its population. #SeasonalVeg will support British farming, boosting our food security and contribute to a much-needed improvement in our dietary and planetary health.

Research conducted by Veg Power also identified that while the majority of consumers are interested in eating more seasonally, a knowledge gap was preventing them from doing so.1

#SeasonalVeg will feature a different vegetable each month, with green beans in October and beetroot in November. Consumer awareness, interest and understanding of ‘eating with the seasons’ will be increased via fresh content and features on Veg Power’s ‘Simply Veg’ website including tips on preparation to ensure the veg are served at their best.

A growing team of high-profile Seasonal Veg Ambassadors led by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall will also be lending their support on social media. These include double-Michelin Star chef Tom Aikens, Shivi Ramoutar, Suzanne Mulholland, Irini Tzortzoglou, Nessie Welschinger, Niki Webster, Chantelle Nicholson and Bettina Campolucci Bordi and nutritionists - Charlotte Radcliffe RNutr and Zoe Griffiths RNutr. Veg Power is keen for anyone with an interest in seasonal veg to show their support, join the campaign and post relevant social content with the #SeasonalVeg hashtag.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall said, “Domestically-produced in-season vegetables are generally cheaper, tastier, fresher and last longer. They are almost universally kinder to the environment and, of course, they support UK farming and our rural communities. I’m delighted to be supporting this campaign and would like to encourage as many people to join us by spreading the word about the benefits of seasonal veg, sharing content on social media and giving seasonal veg a try.”

Dan Parker, Chief Executive, Veg Power said, “At Veg Power we’re focused on increasing the UK’s veg consumption and encouraging consumers to adopt seasonal veg-eating habits will increase the variety and volume of veg consumed. ‘Eating with the seasons’ will also provide other benefits to the UK including improvements in dietary and planetary health and support the last government's findings that fresh produce are a key growth sector for the UK - helping to boost our food security. We’re excited to get people munching on all types of seasonal veg and grateful for the support we have received this far.”
