Lidl's Festive Expansion: 10 New Stores Opening Before Christmas, Creating Hundreds of Jobs Nationwide

The FPC Fresh Awards 24 Multiple Fruit & Veg Retailer of the Year, Lidl, is ramping up its UK expansion drive with the opening of 10 new stores, all set to welcome customers before Christmas.

The German discount retailer announced that this growth spurt will create around 400 new jobs, broadening its reach to thousands more households across the country. This wave of openings will include key locations such as Berwick Green in Bristol, Bovey Tracey in Devon, and Stirchley in Birmingham.

Londoners will also see more of Lidl, with three new stores opening in the capital: Hoxton, Forest Gate, and Caterham. These additions will strengthen Lidl's already significant presence in the city.

In addition to these new stores, Lidl is also reopening three existing locations that have undergone major upgrades and extensions. These stores, located in Chessington, Connah’s Quay, and Dagenham Heathway, are set to offer an enhanced shopping experience to local customers.

The retailer's expansion isn’t stopping there. Lidl recently opened a store in the seaside town of Worthing at the end of the summer, followed by a new location in Fulham in September.

And there’s more to come — Lidl has secured a £70 million sale and leaseback deal involving a joint venture between Roadside Real Estate Plc and Meadow Partners, covering 12 new stores across the UK, in areas like Crediton, Manchester, and Saffron Walden.

Having been crowned the UK's fastest-growing retailer 14 times consecutively, Lidl has ambitious plans to open hundreds more stores nationwide in the coming years.

Richard Taylor, Chief Development Officer at Lidl GB, commented: “Our plan to open 10 new stores before Christmas demonstrates our continued commitment to providing more communities across the country with access to affordable, quality food, as well as employment opportunities.”

He added, “But we still have big ambitions for our expansion plans to open hundreds more Lidl stores in the future. Our teams are constantly scouring the country for new sites, identifying opportunities not just in towns where we don’t currently have stores, but also in areas where existing stores are experiencing increasing demand.”

“Our sale and leaseback deal is just the latest example of how we’re continuing to expand our footprint across the country, ensuring that even more households can benefit from a Lidl store nearby.”

Lidl’s continued growth aims to bring affordable groceries to more communities, create new jobs, and make its popular stores even more accessible nationwide. With the holiday season approaching, these new openings are sure to be welcomed by shoppers eager for quality products at low prices.
