New Government Logistics Priorities Welcomed in King's Speech

Logistics UK has welcomed the new Labour government's priorities as outlined in the recent King's Speech, particularly the emphasis on economic growth.

Michelle Gardner, Deputy Director of Policy at Logistics UK, highlighted the alignment between the government's goals and the logistics sector's needs.

She praised the proposed legislation aimed at enhancing transport and energy grid infrastructure, which could help achieve net-zero targets and stimulate economic growth.

The King’s Speech also addressed empowering local leaders, rail reform, workforce development, and reducing trade friction with the EU.

Gardner stressed the importance of avoiding fragmented regulations and ensuring fair access for freight operators.

She welcomed the introduction of Skills England and the reform of the Apprenticeship Levy, which could benefit transport and logistics businesses.

Addressing trade issues with the EU was also deemed crucial to prevent border disruptions.
