The brand highlighted that the Southern Hemisphere season was record-breaking, with British retailers selling the highest-ever volume of Pink Lady apples. “The record-breaking Southern Hemisphere season has seen the biggest ever volume sold by British retailers, who have continued to champion the UK’s number one fresh produce brand,” the company stated.

Sales figures reflected the brand’s success, with an 8.7 per cent rise in value and a 14.2 per cent increase in volume over the course of the season.

Pink Lady attributed this performance to the role of retailers in driving consumer demand and showcasing branded produce within the fresh produce sector. According to the company, retailers have remained committed to supporting the brand by expanding their range and increasing the availability of Pink Lady apples.

Additionally, there was a notable rise in the use of Pink Lady branded packaging in stores, enhancing the brand’s visibility and recognition among shoppers.

Among the retailers, Sainsbury’s played a key role in the brand’s growth, particularly during the Southern Hemisphere season. Pink Lady noted that Sainsbury’s experienced a “dramatic” increase in market share value in the 12 weeks leading up to 3 November 2024.

“Once again, our retailer partners have driven an extremely successful season for Pink Lady UK,” said Julie Criddle, head of commercial at Twenty Degrees, Pink Lady’s licensor and marketer.

“They have really invested in the power of branding, taking on more branded packing to increase visibility and drive volume.

“The record-breaking results are testament to the dedication of retailers like Sainsbury’s, who continue to champion the qualities that Pink Lady has become renowned for,” Criddle added.

“With the Northern Hemisphere season looking just as promising, we are excited to continue our journey with these valued partners.”

Pink Lady currently holds a 22 per cent share of the market, positioning it as the second most popular apple variety in the UK after Royal Gala.

To ensure year-round supply, Pink Lady apples are cultivated in commercial orchards across the UK, France, Spain, and Italy in Europe, as well as in the Southern Hemisphere.
