The Taste of Rwanda event has launched in London, showcasing over 20 Rwandan export companies from the agriculture and horticulture sectors.
This initiative aims to boost Rwanda’s trade footprint in the UK and capitalize on the benefits of the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), which offers lower tariffs and simpler rules of origin for Rwandan exports to the UK.
Prominent attendees include Rwanda’s High Commissioner to the UK, Johnston Busingye, UK High Commissioner to Rwanda, Alison Thorpe, and National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) CEO, Claude Bizimana. Chantele Carr, CEO of Invest Africa, and representatives from the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) were also present to discuss trade opportunities.
The event comes at a crucial time, as trade between the UK and Rwanda totaled £23 million in the four quarters leading up to Q1 2024, a 37.8% decline from the previous year. Despite this, Rwanda’s total trade in Q2 2024 reached US$ 2.52 billion, up 14.67% from the same period in 2023, signaling growth in Rwanda’s export potential.
Domestic exports for Q2 were US$ 541.10 million, with agricultural exports playing a key role in the country’s economic outlook.
The Taste of Rwanda event aims to further enhance this positive trade trajectory by promoting Rwanda’s high-quality agricultural products to UK markets.
